Description

A creamy and flavorful white gravy made with basic pantry ingredients, perfect for biscuits, fried chicken, or mashed potatoes.

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
  2. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, to form a roux.
  3. Slowly whisk in the milk, continuing to stir to avoid lumps.
  4. Cook and stir the mixture until it thickens and begins to bubble, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Season with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder if using.
  6. Remove from heat and serve warm over your favorite dishes.

Notes

  • Use whole milk for the creamiest texture, but low-fat milk can also be used.
  • Add cooked sausage or bacon bits for extra flavor.
  • Leftover gravy can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated gently.
