A hearty and flavorful Vegan Black Bean Burger that’s easy to make, packed with protein, and perfect for grilling or pan-frying.

- 2 cans (15 oz each) black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp ground flaxseed
- 2.5 tbsp water
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp olive oil (for cooking)
- Burger buns and toppings of choice (lettuce, tomato, avocado, etc.)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine ground flaxseed and water. Let sit for 5 minutes to form a flax egg.
- In a large bowl, mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher, leaving some texture.
- Add the breadcrumbs, onion, cilantro, garlic, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and the prepared flax egg. Mix until well combined.
- Form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until crisp and browned.
- Serve on burger buns with your favorite toppings.
Notes
- For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free breadcrumbs and buns.
- Patties can be frozen and cooked later.
- You can bake the patties at 375°F (190°C) for 10-12 minutes per side if preferred.
