Description

A hearty and flavorful Vegan Black Bean Burger that’s easy to make, packed with protein, and perfect for grilling or pan-frying.


Ingredients

  • 2 cans (15 oz each) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ground flaxseed
  • 2.5 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for cooking)
  • Burger buns and toppings of choice (lettuce, tomato, avocado, etc.)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine ground flaxseed and water. Let sit for 5 minutes to form a flax egg.
  2. In a large bowl, mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher, leaving some texture.
  3. Add the breadcrumbs, onion, cilantro, garlic, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and the prepared flax egg. Mix until well combined.
  4. Form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties.
  5. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until crisp and browned.
  6. Serve on burger buns with your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free breadcrumbs and buns.
  • Patties can be frozen and cooked later.
  • You can bake the patties at 375°F (190°C) for 10-12 minutes per side if preferred.
