Description

These Vanilla French Beignets are light, airy, and perfectly sweetened with a hint of vanilla—ideal for breakfast or an indulgent snack.


Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water with a pinch of sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together sugar, eggs, milk, and vanilla extract.
  3. Add in the yeast mixture and stir to combine.
  4. Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until dough forms.
  5. Add butter and knead until the dough is smooth and elastic, about 5–7 minutes.
  6. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1–2 hours or until doubled in size.
  7. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into 2-inch squares.
  8. Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Fry the dough pieces in batches until golden brown, about 1–2 minutes per side.
  10. Remove and drain on paper towels. Dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.
