- 3/4 cup warm water (110°F)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
- In a bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water with a pinch of sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, whisk together sugar, eggs, milk, and vanilla extract.
- Add in the yeast mixture and stir to combine.
- Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until dough forms.
- Add butter and knead until the dough is smooth and elastic, about 5–7 minutes.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1–2 hours or until doubled in size.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into 2-inch squares.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the dough pieces in batches until golden brown, about 1–2 minutes per side.
- Remove and drain on paper towels. Dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.
