Description

This Vanilla Buttercream Frosting is rich, creamy, and perfect for cakes, cupcakes, and cookies. It spreads and pipes beautifully with a classic sweet vanilla flavor.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 34 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 23 tbsp heavy cream or milk
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1/8 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with a hand mixer or stand mixer on medium speed until smooth and creamy, about 2-3 minutes.
  2. Add 3 cups of the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating on low speed until incorporated.
  3. Add vanilla extract, salt, and 2 tablespoons of cream or milk. Beat on medium speed until fluffy and well combined.
  4. If the frosting is too thick, add more cream 1 tablespoon at a time until the desired consistency is reached. If too thin, add more powdered sugar.
  5. Continue to beat for another 2-3 minutes for a light and fluffy texture.
  6. Use immediately or store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week. Re-whip before using if chilled.

Notes

  • Use room temperature butter for the smoothest texture.
  • Sifting the powdered sugar helps prevent lumps.
  • This recipe can be doubled for layer cakes.
  • Add food coloring for themed decorations.
