- 1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix
- 1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tsp almond extract
- 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup heavy cream (for ganache)
- 1/2 cup chopped maraschino cherries (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, mix the chocolate cake mix, cherry pie filling, eggs, and almond extract until well combined.
- Stir in semisweet, milk, and dark chocolate chips.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool completely in the pan.
- To make the ganache, heat the heavy cream until just boiling, then pour over 1/2 cup chocolate chips and stir until smooth.
- Pour the ganache over the cooled cake and spread evenly.
- Top with chopped maraschino cherries if desired.
- Chill for 15 minutes to set ganache before serving.
Notes
- Use dark cherry pie filling for a deeper flavor.
- Add a splash of cherry liqueur for an adult version.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
