Description
Tiramisu is a classic Italian no-bake dessert made with layers of espresso-soaked ladyfingers, a rich mascarpone cream, and a dusting of cocoa powder.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package ladyfingers (savoiardi)
- 1 cup mascarpone cheese
- 1 cup whipping cream
- 3 eggs, separated
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 cups espresso or strong coffee, cooled
- 2 tbsp dark rum or coffee liqueur (optional)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Unsweetened cocoa powder for dusting
Instructions
- Brew espresso or strong coffee and let it cool to room temperature. Add the rum or coffee liqueur if using.
- Separate the eggs. In a bowl, whisk the yolks with sugar until thick and pale.
- Add the mascarpone to the yolk mixture and beat until smooth.
- Whip the cream to stiff peaks and fold into the mascarpone mixture.
- In another clean bowl, beat the egg whites to stiff peaks and gently fold them into the mascarpone mixture.
- Quickly dip the ladyfingers into the espresso, avoiding soaking.
- Layer the dipped ladyfingers in the bottom of a dish.
- Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
- Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours or overnight.
- Dust the top with unsweetened cocoa powder before serving.
Notes
- Substitute mascarpone with a mix of cream cheese and heavy cream if unavailable.
- For variation, add grated dark chocolate or berries between the layers.
- Use decaf coffee for a caffeine-free version.
- Can be prepared in cups or jars for individual servings.
