- 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C).
- Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe pot over medium heat. Sear brisket on both sides until browned. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pot, add onions and cook until caramelized, about 10-15 minutes.
- Add garlic, brown sugar, and tomato paste. Cook for another 2 minutes.
- Deglaze with balsamic vinegar and soy sauce, scraping up browned bits.
- Return brisket to the pot. Add beef broth, paprika, cumin, pepper, and salt. Bring to a simmer.
- Cover and transfer to oven. Cook for 3-4 hours until brisket is tender and easily shredded.
- Remove brisket and shred using two forks. Return to pot and stir into the sauce.
- Serve hot with your choice of sides or use in sandwiches or tacos.
Notes
- For extra depth of flavor, marinate brisket overnight in a portion of the sauce.
- Leftovers can be frozen and reheated for quick meals.
- Try using the shredded brisket as a topping for baked potatoes or nachos.
