Description

A Southern classic dessert with a creamy, spiced sweet potato filling in a buttery crust. Perfect for holidays or cozy family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups mashed sweet potatoes (about 2 large sweet potatoes)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel and boil sweet potatoes until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and mash until smooth.
  3. In a large bowl, combine mashed sweet potatoes and butter. Mix until butter is melted and incorporated.
  4. Add sugar, sweetened condensed milk, eggs, vanilla, and all spices. Mix until smooth.
  5. Pour mixture into unbaked pie crust and smooth the top.
  6. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the center is set and a knife inserted comes out clean.
  7. Let pie cool completely before serving. Optional: top with whipped cream or toasted pecans.

Notes

  • Add a splash of bourbon or rum for a deeper flavor.
  • Top with a brown sugar pecan streusel for crunch.
  • Use coconut milk for a dairy-free version.
  • Add orange zest for a citrus twist.
  • Make mini pies using muffin tins.
