Description

Sweet Potato and Apple Casserole is a warm, comforting dish that combines the natural sweetness of roasted sweet potatoes with tart apples, brown sugar, and warm spices. It’s a perfect fall or holiday side dish.


Ingredients

  • 4 cups sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 3 cups apples, peeled and sliced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)
  • 1/2 cup mini marshmallows (optional topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, toss sweet potatoes and apples with melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  4. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  5. Remove foil, stir gently, and sprinkle with pecans if using. Bake uncovered for an additional 15–20 minutes, or until sweet potatoes are tender.
  6. If using marshmallows, sprinkle them over the top during the last 5 minutes of baking and broil briefly for a golden top.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

  • Choose tart apples for the best contrast in flavor.
  • Can be made a day in advance and reheated.
  • Skip marshmallows for a less sweet version.
  • Add a splash of orange juice or maple syrup for extra depth.
