Description

This Strawberry Cream Cheese French Toast Bake is a sweet and creamy breakfast casserole that’s perfect for brunch or special mornings. Made with soft bread, fresh strawberries, and pockets of cream cheese, it’s soaked in a cinnamon-spiced custard and baked to golden perfection. Make it the night before for an easy, crowd-pleasing dish!

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf (about 14-16 oz) French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced

  • 8 oz cream cheese, cut into 1/2-inch cubes

  • 8 large eggs

  • 2 1/2 cups whole milk

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • Powdered sugar, for topping (optional)

  • Maple syrup, for serving

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Spread half of the bread cubes evenly in the dish.

  2. Add cream cheese and strawberries. Sprinkle the cream cheese cubes and half of the sliced strawberries over the bread layer.

  3. Top with remaining bread. Spread the rest of the bread cubes on top.

  4. Make the custard. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.

  5. Pour the custard. Slowly pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread in the baking dish. Lightly press the bread down so it soaks up the liquid.

  6. Refrigerate overnight or for at least 4 hours.

  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove the dish from the fridge and let it sit at room temperature for 20–30 minutes.

  8. Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.

  9. Cool slightly, then top with powdered sugar and extra strawberries if desired. Serve with maple syrup.

Notes

  • You can substitute challah or brioche bread for extra richness.

  • Frozen strawberries can be used; thaw and drain before using.

  • To make ahead, assemble the night before and bake in the morning.
