Description

Spicy Crispy Tofu is a bold and flavorful dish with golden, crunchy tofu tossed in a spicy, tangy sauce. It’s perfect for weeknight dinners, meal prep, or as a protein-packed addition to rice bowls, noodles, or salads.

Ingredients

  • 1 (14 oz) block extra-firm tofu, pressed and cubed

  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce

  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil (like avocado or vegetable oil)

For the Spicy Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce

  • 1 tablespoon sriracha (adjust to taste)

  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar

  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey

  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

  • 1 garlic clove, minced

  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger (optional)

  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water (slurry, for thickening)

Instructions:

  • 1 (14 oz) block extra-firm tofu, pressed and cubed

  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce

  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil (like avocado or vegetable oil)

For the Spicy Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce

  • 1 tablespoon sriracha (adjust to taste)

  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar

  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey

  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

  • 1 garlic clove, minced

  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger (optional)

  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water (slurry, for thickening)

Instructions

  • Press tofu for at least 15 minutes to remove excess moisture. Cut into cubes.

  • Toss tofu cubes with soy sauce and cornstarch until evenly coated.

  • Heat sesame oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.

  • Add tofu and cook for 3–4 minutes on each side, until golden and crispy. Remove and set aside.

  • In the same pan, add garlic and ginger, and sauté for 30 seconds.

  • Stir in soy sauce, sriracha, hoisin sauce, vinegar, and maple syrup. Simmer for 2 minutes.

  • Add the cornstarch slurry and stir until the sauce thickens.

  • Return tofu to the pan and toss to coat evenly in the sauce.

  • Serve hot over rice or noodles, topped with green onions or sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, bake or air fry the tofu before tossing it in the sauce.

  • Make it gluten-free by using tamari instead of soy sauce.

  • Adjust spice level by adding more or less sriracha.
