- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 lb ground pork
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1 egg
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced (for sauce)
- 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 lb spaghetti
- Grated Parmesan and fresh basil for garnish
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, minced garlic, parsley, egg, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Form the mixture into 1-1.5 inch meatballs.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add meatballs and brown on all sides. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, sauté onion and garlic until softened.
- Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- Return meatballs to the sauce. Cover and simmer for 20-25 minutes, until meatballs are cooked through.
- Meanwhile, cook spaghetti according to package instructions. Drain.
- Serve meatballs and sauce over spaghetti. Garnish with Parmesan and fresh basil.
Notes
- Use a mix of beef and pork for best flavor and texture.
- Fresh herbs enhance flavor, but dried can be substituted.
- Double the meatballs and freeze half for later use.
