Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (for sauce)
  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 lb spaghetti
  • Grated Parmesan and fresh basil for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, minced garlic, parsley, egg, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  2. Form the mixture into 1-1.5 inch meatballs.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add meatballs and brown on all sides. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, sauté onion and garlic until softened.
  5. Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. Return meatballs to the sauce. Cover and simmer for 20-25 minutes, until meatballs are cooked through.
  7. Meanwhile, cook spaghetti according to package instructions. Drain.
  8. Serve meatballs and sauce over spaghetti. Garnish with Parmesan and fresh basil.

Notes

  • Use a mix of beef and pork for best flavor and texture.
  • Fresh herbs enhance flavor, but dried can be substituted.
  • Double the meatballs and freeze half for later use.
