Description

Southern Buttermilk Pie is a classic Southern dessert with a rich, custard-like filling made with buttermilk, sugar, and a hint of vanilla, all baked in a flaky pie crust.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sugar and flour.
  3. Add the melted butter and mix until well combined.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Stir in the buttermilk, lemon juice, vanilla extract, and nutmeg.
  6. Pour the mixture into the unbaked pie crust.
  7. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is lightly golden.
  8. Let the pie cool completely on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

  • Pie can be served chilled or at room temperature.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • A light dusting of powdered sugar can enhance presentation.
