Description

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup active sourdough starter (fed and bubbly)
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine sourdough starter, warm milk, sugar, egg, and melted butter. Mix well.
  2. Add flour and salt. Stir until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 4–5 hours or until doubled (or refrigerate overnight).
  5. Divide dough into 12 equal pieces and shape into balls. Place in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  6. Cover and let rise again for 1–2 hours until puffy.

  8. Brush warm rolls with melted butter. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For a stronger sourdough flavor, let dough rise overnight in the fridge.
  • You can freeze baked rolls and reheat before serving.
  • Use bread flour for a chewier texture if desired.
