Ingredients
-
1 pound breakfast sausage (pork or turkey)
-
6 large eggs
-
2 cups milk
-
1 teaspoon salt
-
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
-
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
-
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
-
6 cups cubed day-old bread (like French or sourdough)
-
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
-
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
-
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
-
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned and fully cooked, breaking it into crumbles. Drain excess grease.
-
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
-
Add the bread cubes, cooked sausage, and both cheeses to the bowl. Stir to combine and soak the bread evenly.
-
Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.
-
Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is golden brown.
-
Let it cool for 5–10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
Notes
-
You can assemble this casserole the night before and refrigerate it. Just bake it in the morning!
-
Try adding chopped bell peppers or spinach for extra veggies.
-
Swap the cheddar for pepper jack if you want a little spice.
