Description

A comforting Salisbury steak recipe made with seasoned ground beef patties simmered in a rich mushroom and onion gravy—perfect for a hearty dinner.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (for gravy)
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  2. Shape into 4 oval patties.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook patties for about 4–5 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add onions and mushrooms. Sauté for 5 minutes until tender.
  5. Sprinkle in flour and stir well to coat. Cook for 1 minute.
  6. Gradually pour in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard, stirring constantly until smooth.
  7. Bring to a simmer and return patties to the skillet. Cover and simmer for 15–20 minutes, or until patties are cooked through and gravy is thickened.
  8. Serve hot with mashed potatoes or rice.

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef to reduce grease in the skillet.
  • Add a splash of red wine to the gravy for deeper flavor.
  • Great make-ahead meal—gravy improves overnight!
