Scale
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk
- Red food coloring
- Blue food coloring
- Powdered sugar or frosting for topping (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan or two 8-inch round pans.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla extract.
- Gradually add dry ingredients, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly into three bowls. Leave one bowl plain (white), color one red, and the other blue using food coloring.
- Spoon dollops of each color into the prepared pan, alternating colors randomly.
- Use a butter knife to gently swirl the colors together for a marbled effect.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool completely before frosting or dusting with powdered sugar, if desired.
Notes
- Do not overmix when swirling to preserve the marble effect.
- Can be topped with whipped cream and berries for extra flair.
- Use gel food coloring for more vibrant colors without thinning the batter.
