Description

Soft, chewy Red Velvet Cookies with a rich cocoa flavor, striking red color, and optional white chocolate chips for extra sweetness. Perfect for any special occasion or a sweet treat anytime.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 23 tbsp red food coloring
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips or chunks (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract, red food coloring, and white vinegar.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until just combined. Fold in the white chocolate chips if using.
  6. Scoop the dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing each cookie about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are set and the centers look slightly soft.
  8. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Use cream cheese chips instead of white chocolate for a classic red velvet flavor pairing.
  • Sprinkle sea salt on top before baking for a sweet-salty balance.
  • Make sandwich cookies with cream cheese frosting for extra indulgence.
  • Chill the dough for thicker cookies and more developed flavor.
