- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- For the filling:
- 2 apples, peeled and finely chopped
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- For the glaze:
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 tbsp milk
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- In a saucepan, heat milk, butter, and water until warm (not hot), then stir in vanilla.
- Pour the wet mixture into the flour mixture and add eggs. Mix until combined.
- Gradually add the remaining flour to form a soft dough. Knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
- In a small bowl, mix apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
- Roll the dough out into a rectangle and brush with melted butter. Evenly distribute apple filling over the dough.
- Cut dough into strips, stack them, and slice into squares. Stack squares vertically in a greased loaf pan.
- Cover and let rise again for 30–45 minutes.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30–35 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Whisk glaze ingredients together and drizzle over warm bread before serving.
Notes
- Use firm apples like Granny Smith for best texture.
- Let the bread cool slightly before glazing to prevent it from melting completely.
- Great for making ahead — reheat slices briefly in the microwave.
