Description

Panna Cotta is a silky, creamy Italian dessert made with sweetened cream and gelatin. It’s simple to make, elegant, and perfect for preparing ahead of time.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon unflavored gelatin
  • 3 tablespoons cold water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over cold water and let it bloom for 5–10 minutes.
  2. In a saucepan, combine heavy cream, milk, and sugar. Heat over medium heat until sugar is dissolved and the mixture is hot but not boiling.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the bloomed gelatin until fully dissolved.
  4. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Pour the mixture into ramekins or small glasses. Let cool slightly, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or until set.
  6. To serve, unmold onto a plate or serve in the glass, optionally topped with fruit, coulis, or shaved chocolate.

Notes

  • Do not boil the cream mixture — just heat until sugar dissolves.
  • For a lighter version, substitute half-and-half for some of the cream.
  • Can be flavored with citrus zest, coffee, or liqueurs.
  • Perfect for making ahead — keeps well in the fridge for 2–3 days.
