Ingredients
-
1 loaf (about 14-16 oz) French bread or brioche, cut into 1-inch cubes
-
8 large eggs
-
2 cups whole milk
-
1/2 cup heavy cream
-
3/4 cup granulated sugar
-
1/4 cup brown sugar
-
2 tsp vanilla extract
-
1 tsp ground cinnamon
-
1/4 tsp salt
Topping:
-
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
-
1/2 cup brown sugar
-
1 tsp ground cinnamon
-
1/4 tsp salt
-
1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
Instructions
-
Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
-
Spread the cubed bread evenly in the dish.
-
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
-
Pour the mixture evenly over the bread cubes, pressing down slightly to soak all the bread. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
-
In the morning, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
-
For the topping, mix flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a bowl. Cut in the butter with a fork or pastry cutter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
-
Sprinkle the topping evenly over the soaked bread.
-
Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is golden and the center is set.
-
Let it cool for 5–10 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm with syrup or fresh fruit.
Notes
-
You can swap brioche or challah for a richer texture.
-
Add chopped nuts or berries before baking for extra flavor.
-
To make it dairy-free, use almond milk and coconut cream, and vegan butter for the topping.
