Ingredients
-
1 tablespoon olive oil
-
1 small onion, diced
-
3 garlic cloves, minced
-
1 pound ground beef (or Italian sausage)
-
1 teaspoon salt
-
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
-
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
-
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
-
1 (24-ounce) jar marinara sauce
-
3 cups water or beef broth
-
12 ounces spaghetti (uncooked)
-
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
-
Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
-
Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened.
-
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
-
Add ground beef, salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes. Cook until the beef is browned, breaking it up as it cooks.
-
Pour in the marinara sauce and water or broth. Stir to combine.
-
Break the spaghetti in half and add it to the pot. Gently stir to submerge the noodles.
-
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer. Cover and cook for about 12–15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking, until the pasta is tender and the sauce is slightly thickened.
-
Remove from heat and stir in Parmesan cheese, if using.
-
Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil or parsley if desired.
Notes
-
Swap ground beef for ground turkey or plant-based meat for a lighter version.
-
Add chopped veggies like bell peppers or mushrooms for extra nutrition.
-
Use whole wheat pasta for added fiber.
