Description

These Mexican Ground Beef Lettuce Wraps are a low-carb, flavorful twist on traditional tacos, made with seasoned beef and fresh toppings wrapped in crisp lettuce leaves.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 head of romaine or butter lettuce, leaves separated
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/4 cup sour cream (optional)
  • 1/2 avocado, diced (optional)
  • 1 lime, cut into wedges

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened.
  2. Add garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until browned and fully cooked, about 6-8 minutes.
  4. Drain excess fat if necessary, then stir in chili powder, cumin, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
  5. Add tomato sauce and stir to combine. Simmer for 5 minutes until heated through.
  6. Prepare lettuce leaves by washing and drying them thoroughly.
  7. Spoon the seasoned beef mixture into each lettuce leaf.
  8. Top with diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, cilantro, avocado, and sour cream as desired.
  9. Serve with lime wedges on the side.

Notes

  • Use iceberg or butter lettuce for a sturdier wrap option.
  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner version.
  • Adjust spices to your taste for more or less heat.
  • Serve with a side of salsa or guacamole for extra flavor.
