Description

A creamy and naturally sweet side dish made with mashed sweet potatoes, perfect for both everyday dinners and festive occasions. Easily customizable for sweet or savory tastes.


Ingredients

  • 34 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 23 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup buttermilk or heavy cream
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 12 tbsp brown sugar (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

  1. Peel and chop the sweet potatoes into evenly sized chunks.
  2. Place them in a large pot and cover with water. Add a pinch of salt.
  3. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes until fork-tender.
  4. Drain and return the sweet potatoes to the pot or a mixing bowl.
  5. Add butter and mash until smooth using a potato masher or hand mixer.
  6. Gradually add milk, mashing and stirring until creamy.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. For a sweeter dish, mix in brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  9. Serve warm as a side dish.
