Description

- 3–4 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and chopped
- 2–3 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup buttermilk or heavy cream
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- 1–2 tbsp brown sugar (optional)
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
- 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
Instructions
- Peel and chop the sweet potatoes into evenly sized chunks.
- Place them in a large pot and cover with water. Add a pinch of salt.
- Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes until fork-tender.
- Drain and return the sweet potatoes to the pot or a mixing bowl.
- Add butter and mash until smooth using a potato masher or hand mixer.
- Gradually add milk, mashing and stirring until creamy.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- For a sweeter dish, mix in brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Serve warm as a side dish.
