Description

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan or an 8-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Stir in vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  5. In a small bowl, mix cocoa powder and hot water until smooth. Transfer 1/3 of the batter to this bowl and stir to combine.
  6. Pour half of the vanilla batter into the prepared pan. Dollop chocolate batter over it, then top with remaining vanilla batter. Swirl gently with a knife to create a marbled effect.
  7. Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
