- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons hot water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan or an 8-inch round cake pan.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- In a small bowl, mix cocoa powder and hot water until smooth. Transfer 1/3 of the batter to this bowl and stir to combine.
- Pour half of the vanilla batter into the prepared pan. Dollop chocolate batter over it, then top with remaining vanilla batter. Swirl gently with a knife to create a marbled effect.
- Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
