Description

A bold and elegant whiskey cocktail that pairs rye or bourbon with sweet vermouth and aromatic bitters, garnished with a cherry for a classic finish.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz rye whiskey or bourbon
  • 1 oz sweet vermouth
  • 23 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 maraschino cherry (for garnish)
  • 1 orange peel (optional)

Instructions

  1. Chill a cocktail glass by placing it in the freezer or filling it with ice water.
  2. In a mixing glass filled with ice, combine 2 oz of whiskey, 1 oz of sweet vermouth, and 2-3 dashes of Angostura bitters.
  3. Stir the mixture for about 30 seconds until well-chilled.
  4. Strain the cocktail into the chilled glass.
  5. Garnish with a maraschino cherry and an optional expressed orange peel.

Notes

  • Use dry vermouth instead of sweet for a Dry Manhattan.
  • For a Perfect Manhattan, use equal parts sweet and dry vermouth.
