Description

Laccha Pyaz is a classic Indian salad made from thinly sliced onions, spices, and lemon juice. It’s a tangy, crunchy accompaniment often served with North Indian meals.

Ingredients

  • 2 large red onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon chaat masala
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish)
  • Cold water (for soaking)

Instructions

  1. Peel and thinly slice the onions into rings.
  2. Soak the sliced onions in cold water for 10–15 minutes to reduce the pungency.
  3. Drain the onions and gently squeeze to remove excess water.
  4. Place the onions in a bowl and add lemon juice, chaat masala, red chili powder, and salt.
  5. Toss well to evenly coat the onions with the spices.
  6. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use red onions for best flavor and appearance.
  • Soaking in cold water helps mellow the sharp taste of raw onions.
  • Can be prepared just before serving for maximum crunch.
