Description

Italian Drunken Noodles is a flavorful fusion dish combining wide noodles, Italian sausage, and vegetables in a rich tomato and wine-based sauce, inspired by the Thai drunken noodle concept but with an Italian twist.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 12 oz wide egg noodles
  • 1 lb Italian sausage (mild or hot, casing removed)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes with juice
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil leaves, chopped (for garnish)
  • Freshly grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook egg noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add Italian sausage and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks.
  3. Add sliced bell peppers and red onion to the skillet. Sauté for about 5 minutes until vegetables are tender.
  4. Stir in the garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
  5. Deglaze the pan with white wine, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom.
  6. Add diced tomatoes with juice, red pepper flakes, and Italian seasoning. Simmer for 10 minutes to allow flavors to blend.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Add cooked noodles to the skillet and toss to combine everything thoroughly.
  9. Garnish with chopped basil and Parmesan cheese if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Use spicy Italian sausage for an extra kick.
  • Substitute white wine with chicken broth for an alcohol-free version.
  • Add spinach or zucchini for extra veggies.
