Description

A hearty and comforting Instant Pot Split Pea Soup made with green split peas, vegetables, and seasonings. Perfect for a quick, nutritious meal.


Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 cups dried green split peas, rinsed
  • 6 cups vegetable broth
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Set the Instant Pot to sauté mode and heat the olive oil.
  2. Add the onion, garlic, carrots, and celery. Sauté for about 5 minutes until the vegetables begin to soften.
  3. Add the thyme, pepper, salt, and bay leaf. Stir to combine.
  4. Add the rinsed split peas and vegetable broth. Stir well.
  5. Close the lid, set the valve to sealing, and cook on high pressure for 15 minutes.
  6. Allow the pressure to naturally release for 10 minutes, then manually release the remaining pressure.
  7. Remove the bay leaf. Stir the soup and add lemon juice if using.
  8. Serve hot with your favorite bread or crackers.

Notes

  • For a creamier texture, use an immersion blender to partially puree the soup.
  • You can add diced ham or smoked paprika for extra flavor if not vegan.
  • This soup thickens as it cools; add water or broth when reheating.
