Description

A quick and easy method to prepare canned black beans, perfect as a side dish or a base for various recipes.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Open the can of black beans and drain about half the liquid.
  2. Heat olive oil in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  3. Add minced garlic and chopped onion; sauté until translucent, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Stir in cumin, black pepper, and salt.
  5. Add the black beans along with the remaining liquid from the can.
  6. Simmer uncovered for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Optional: Stir in chopped cilantro and lime juice before serving.
  8. Serve warm as a side or use in your favorite dishes.

Notes

  • Rinsing the beans reduces sodium but may require adding a little water or broth during cooking.
  • For extra flavor, add a bay leaf or a dash of smoked paprika.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
