Description
Chewy on the outside, soft on the inside, these pretzel rolls are perfect for sandwiches, sides, or snacks. A classic pretzel flavor in the form of fresh-baked bread rolls.

- 4 cups bread flour
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup baking soda (for boiling water)
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Coarse sea salt, for topping
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and brown sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour, salt, and melted butter. Mix and knead until a soft dough forms.
- Cover and let rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and shape into rolls.
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil and carefully add baking soda.
- Boil each roll for 30 seconds on each side, then transfer to the baking sheet.
- Brush each roll with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Bake for 18-22 minutes or until deep golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Add shredded cheese before baking for a cheesy twist.
- Try stuffing with ham and cheese before baking for a hearty snack.
- Use cinnamon sugar instead of salt for a sweet version.
- Whole wheat flour can be substituted for a denser texture.
