Description
A rich, sweet, and tangy homemade hoisin sauce that’s perfect for stir-fries, marinades, and dipping sauces. This version is quick to make and customizable to taste.

- 4 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons peanut butter or black bean paste
- 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
- 2 teaspoons rice vinegar
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 2 teaspoons sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon Chinese five spice powder
- 2 teaspoons sriracha or hot sauce (optional)
- 1 tablespoon molasses (optional for deeper sweetness)
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine the soy sauce and peanut butter or black bean paste. Mix until smooth.
- Add the honey (or maple syrup), rice vinegar, minced garlic, sesame oil, five spice powder, and sriracha (if using).
- Stir in molasses if a deeper sweetness is desired.
- Whisk all ingredients together until fully combined and smooth.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Notes
- Use black bean paste for a more authentic flavor, or peanut butter for convenience.
- Adjust the sriracha for more or less heat.
- Great as a glaze for meat, in stir-fries, or as a dipping sauce.
