Description

A rich, sweet, and tangy homemade hoisin sauce that’s perfect for stir-fries, marinades, and dipping sauces. This version is quick to make and customizable to taste.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter or black bean paste
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
  • 2 teaspoons rice vinegar
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese five spice powder
  • 2 teaspoons sriracha or hot sauce (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon molasses (optional for deeper sweetness)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the soy sauce and peanut butter or black bean paste. Mix until smooth.
  2. Add the honey (or maple syrup), rice vinegar, minced garlic, sesame oil, five spice powder, and sriracha (if using).
  3. Stir in molasses if a deeper sweetness is desired.
  4. Whisk all ingredients together until fully combined and smooth.
  5. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

  • Use black bean paste for a more authentic flavor, or peanut butter for convenience.
  • Adjust the sriracha for more or less heat.
  • Great as a glaze for meat, in stir-fries, or as a dipping sauce.
