Description

A flaky, buttery pastry that blends the best of croissants and muffins, perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Extra butter for layering (about 1/2 cup, softened)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and vanilla extract to the yeast mixture. Knead into a smooth dough.
  3. Cover and let rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  4. Punch down the dough and divide into 12 equal portions.
  5. Roll out each portion into a thin rectangle. Spread softened butter over the surface.
  6. Roll each rectangle tightly into a log, then cut lengthwise to expose layers.
  7. Roll the halves into spirals and place in greased muffin tins, cut-side up.
  8. Let rise again for 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  10. Allow to cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar or fill as desired.
