- 4 cups day-old bread, cut into 1/2-inch cubes (French, sourdough, or sandwich bread)
- 3 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (optional)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, toss bread cubes with olive oil (or melted butter), garlic powder, herbs, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
- Spread the cubes in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 15–20 minutes, stirring halfway through, until croutons are golden brown and crisp.
- Let cool completely before serving or storing.
Notes
- Use stale or day-old bread for best texture and flavor.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
- Customize with parmesan, paprika, or your favorite seasonings.
