Description

This hearty homemade chili is packed with ground beef, beans, and bold spices. It’s the perfect comfort food for chilly nights, game days, or when you just want a cozy one-pot meal. Simple to make, big on flavor, and easy to customize!

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 medium onion, diced

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 pound ground beef

  • 1 (15-ounce) can kidney beans, drained and rinsed

  • 1 (15-ounce) can black beans, drained and rinsed

  • 1 (15-ounce) can diced tomatoes

  • 1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste

  • 1 cup beef broth

  • 2 tablespoons chili powder

  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin

  • 1 teaspoon paprika

  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.

  2. Add the diced onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened.

  3. Stir in the garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.

  4. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.

  5. Drain any excess grease.

  6. Stir in the beans, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, and beef broth.

  7. Add the chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, pepper, and cayenne if using.

  8. Bring the chili to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 30–45 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  9. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.

  10. Serve hot with your favorite toppings like shredded cheese, sour cream, or chopped green onions.

Notes

  • For a thicker chili, simmer uncovered for the last 10–15 minutes.

  • Want it spicier? Add more cayenne or a chopped jalapeño.

  • This chili tastes even better the next day!
