A simple and delicious homemade bread recipe that yields a soft and fluffy loaf, perfect for sandwiches or toast.
Ingredients
- 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 1/4 cups warm water (110°F)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour, salt, and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place in a greased loaf pan.
- Cover and let rise again for 30-40 minutes until puffy.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
- Remove from pan and cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
- For a softer crust, brush the top with melted butter right after baking.
- You can use bread flour for a chewier texture.
- Add herbs or cheese for variations in flavor.
