Description

Hawaiian Sweet Bread Strata is a sweet and savory baked casserole made with fluffy Hawaiian bread, eggs, cheese, and ham, perfect for a make-ahead brunch or holiday breakfast.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 loaf (16 oz) Hawaiian sweet bread, cubed
  • 1 1/2 cups diced ham
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp ground mustard (optional)
  • 2 tbsp chopped green onions (optional)

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and add cubed Hawaiian bread evenly in the bottom.
  2. Sprinkle diced ham and shredded cheese evenly over the bread cubes. Add green onions if using.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and ground mustard until well combined.
  4. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread, pressing down lightly to ensure all bread is soaked.
  5. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight for best results.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove strata from fridge and let sit at room temperature for 20 minutes.
  7. Bake uncovered for 45–55 minutes, or until golden brown and the center is set.
  8. Let rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Can be assembled the night before and baked fresh in the morning.
  • Try adding sautéed spinach or mushrooms for extra veggies.
  • Leftovers can be reheated and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
