Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 8 taco shells or small tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until soft, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Add garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  3. Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.
  4. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
  5. Stir in chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and pepper.
  6. Add tomato sauce and water. Stir to combine and simmer for 5-7 minutes until mixture thickens.
  7. Warm taco shells or tortillas according to package instructions.
  8. Fill each shell with a portion of the beef mixture.
  9. Top with shredded lettuce, cheese, diced tomatoes, sour cream, and cilantro as desired.
  10. Serve immediately and enjoy.

Notes

  • You can prepare the taco meat in advance and reheat before serving.
  • Feel free to add other toppings like avocado, jalapeños, or salsa.
  • For a spicier version, increase the cayenne pepper or add hot sauce.
