Description

Ground Beef and Chopped Cabbage is a simple, hearty, and budget-friendly skillet meal made with seasoned ground beef and tender sautéed cabbage. It’s a low-carb comfort food classic ready in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small head green cabbage, chopped (about 6 cups)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/4 cup beef broth or water
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (optional for umami)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add chopped onion and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.
  2. Add ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and fully cooked, about 6–8 minutes. Drain excess grease if needed.
  3. Add garlic, salt, pepper, paprika, oregano, and red pepper flakes. Stir and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Add chopped cabbage and beef broth (and soy sauce if using). Stir to combine, then cover and cook for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until cabbage is tender.
  5. Remove lid and cook for another 2–3 minutes to let any excess liquid evaporate. Adjust seasoning to taste.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef (85% or higher) to reduce grease.
  • This dish is great as-is or served over rice, mashed potatoes, or cauliflower rice.
  • Add shredded carrots or bell peppers for extra veggies and color.
