Description

This golden sweet cornbread is moist, fluffy, and has just the right amount of sweetness. It’s the perfect side for chili, BBQ, or any hearty meal. Easy to make and loved by all ages, this cornbread brings comfort food to the table with every bite.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cornmeal

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup milk

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil (or melted butter)

  • 2 tablespoons honey (optional, for extra sweetness)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking dish or line with parchment paper.

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  3. In another bowl, mix together the milk, eggs, and oil (and honey if using).

  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined—don’t overmix.

  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top.

  6. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. Let it cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a handful of corn kernels or shredded cheddar cheese to the batter.

  • Can be made ahead and stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

  • Great with a pat of butter or drizzle of honey on top.
