Description

Garbage Bread is a delicious, customizable stuffed bread loaded with meats, cheeses, and vegetables, baked to golden perfection. It’s a great way to use leftovers or create a hearty snack or meal.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 loaf of frozen bread dough, thawed
  • 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb Italian sausage
  • 1/2 cup diced onions
  • 1/2 cup diced green bell peppers
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup marinara or pizza sauce
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and Italian sausage until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add onions and bell peppers to the skillet and sauté until softened. Season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
  4. Roll out the bread dough on a floured surface into a rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
  5. Spread marinara sauce over the dough, leaving a border around the edges.
  6. Layer the meat and vegetable mixture evenly over the sauce.
  7. Top with mozzarella, cheddar, and Parmesan cheeses.
  8. Roll the dough tightly like a jelly roll and pinch the edges to seal.
  9. Place the rolled dough seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Brush with beaten egg.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  11. Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute or add any leftover meats, vegetables, or cheeses.
  • Serve with extra marinara sauce for dipping.
  • Can be made ahead and reheated.
