- 1 1/2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 1 tablespoon fresh basil, chopped
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 pre-made pie crust or homemade tart dough
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon coarse sugar (optional, for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, combine sliced strawberries, chopped basil, lemon juice, granulated sugar, and cornstarch. Mix gently until well coated.
- Roll out the pie crust on the prepared baking sheet.
- Spoon the strawberry mixture into the center of the crust, leaving a 2-inch border around the edges.
- Fold the edges of the crust up over the strawberries, pleating as needed to form a rustic shape.
- Brush the crust with the beaten egg and sprinkle coarse sugar over the edges if desired.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
- Let the galette cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Use ripe but firm strawberries to prevent a soggy filling.
- Chill the dough if it gets too soft while assembling.
- Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for extra indulgence.
