Scale
- 500g ground beef or pork
- 1kg potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 3 eggs
- 250ml milk
- 1 tablespoon flour (optional, for thickening)
- Butter or oil for greasing the baking dish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F). Grease a baking dish with butter or oil.
- In a skillet, heat oil and sauté the chopped onion until translucent. Add garlic and cook for another minute.
- Add ground meat to the skillet and cook until browned. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika. Set aside.
- Peel and thinly slice the potatoes. Arrange a layer of potatoes on the bottom of the baking dish.
- Spread half of the cooked meat over the potatoes. Add another layer of potatoes, followed by the remaining meat, and finish with a final layer of potatoes.
- In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, and flour (if using). Pour this mixture evenly over the layered moussaka.
- Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 15–20 minutes, or until the top is golden and the potatoes are tender.
- Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute beef with pork or a mix of both.
- Adding a bit of flour to the egg mixture helps thicken the topping.
- Letting the moussaka rest before cutting helps it hold its shape better.
