Description

These easy matcha cookies are made with nutty brown butter for a delicious twist on a classic green tea cookie. Soft, chewy, and rich in umami flavor, they’re perfect for tea lovers and cookie fans alike.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter
  • 1 1/4 cups (250g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (100g) brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups (280g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp matcha green tea powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat until it turns golden brown and gives off a nutty aroma. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the brown butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Beat until well combined.
  3. Add the eggs and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, matcha powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Cover the dough and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  8. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto the baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden. Centers should still look soft.
  10. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
