Description

Tender apple slices are simmered with cinnamon, sugar, and butter for a cozy, lightly sweetened treat that’s perfect as a topping or side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 apples (such as Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Gala), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • 2 tbsp water

Instructions

  1. Peel, core, and slice the apples evenly.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
  3. Add the apple slices and cook for 2-3 minutes until they start to soften.
  4. Sprinkle in the brown sugar, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg (if using). Stir to coat the apples evenly.
  5. Add lemon juice and a splash of water to help the apples cook and release their juices.
  6. Cover and simmer for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender.
  7. If desired, dissolve cornstarch in a little water and stir into the skillet. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  8. Remove from heat and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Use maple syrup instead of sugar for a richer flavor.
  • Add raisins or chopped nuts for extra texture.
  • Stir in a splash of vanilla extract after cooking for added depth.
  • Swap apples for pears for a seasonal twist.
