- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup chopped dark chocolate (70% cacao or higher)
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine the milk and heavy cream over medium heat. Heat until warm but not boiling.
- Add the chopped dark chocolate, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt. Whisk continuously until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth.
- Reduce the heat to low and continue to whisk until the hot chocolate thickens slightly, about 3-5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Pour into mugs and serve hot. Top with whipped cream or chocolate shavings if desired.
Notes
- You can substitute the milk with almond or oat milk for a dairy-free version.
- Adjust the sugar depending on the bitterness of your chocolate.
- Add a pinch of cinnamon or chili powder for a flavor twist.
