Description

A rich and velvety dark chocolate hot chocolate made with real dark chocolate and milk, perfect for cozy evenings or a decadent treat.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup chopped dark chocolate (70% cacao or higher)
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the milk and heavy cream over medium heat. Heat until warm but not boiling.
  2. Add the chopped dark chocolate, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt. Whisk continuously until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and continue to whisk until the hot chocolate thickens slightly, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Pour into mugs and serve hot. Top with whipped cream or chocolate shavings if desired.

Notes

  • You can substitute the milk with almond or oat milk for a dairy-free version.
  • Adjust the sugar depending on the bitterness of your chocolate.
  • Add a pinch of cinnamon or chili powder for a flavor twist.
