Description
A rich and indulgent dessert or brunch option made with flaky croissants soaked in a creamy custard, perfect with add-ins like chocolate, berries, or nuts.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6–8 croissants (preferably day-old)
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp salt
- Optional add-ins: chocolate chips, raisins, fresh berries, chopped nuts
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
- Slice the croissants into pieces and arrange in the prepared baking dish.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.
- Pour the custard mixture evenly over the croissant pieces, pressing down slightly to soak.
- Let the mixture rest for 10-15 minutes to absorb the custard.
- Sprinkle any desired add-ins on top.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, until the top is golden and the custard is set but slightly soft in the center.
- Cool slightly and serve warm.
Notes
- Add a swirl of Nutella or caramel before baking for extra richness.
- Replace vanilla extract with almond or maple extract for variety.
- Top with fruit and whipped cream for a brunch-ready presentation.
- Add citrus zest to brighten up the custard.
- Make it savory by omitting sugar and using cheese, herbs, and cooked meat.
