Description

Crock Pot French Onion Meatballs are a savory and comforting appetizer or main dish featuring tender meatballs slow-cooked in a rich French onion-style sauce with melted cheese for a cozy, crowd-pleasing recipe.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 lbs frozen fully cooked meatballs
  • 1 packet (1 oz) French onion soup mix
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss or mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch + 2 tablespoons water (optional, for thickening)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté sliced onions until soft and lightly caramelized, about 8–10 minutes.
  2. Place frozen meatballs in the bottom of a greased crock pot.
  3. Add sautéed onions over the meatballs.
  4. In a bowl, whisk together beef broth, French onion soup mix, and Worcestershire sauce.
  5. Pour mixture over the meatballs and onions.
  6. Cover and cook on low for 4–5 hours or high for 2–3 hours, until meatballs are heated through and flavors meld.
  7. If a thicker sauce is desired, mix cornstarch and water, stir into the crock pot, and cook on high for an additional 10–15 minutes.
  8. Sprinkle cheese over the top in the last 15 minutes of cooking, cover until melted.
  9. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.

Notes

  • Serve over mashed potatoes, noodles, or crusty bread for a complete meal.
  • Use homemade meatballs if preferred—just pre-cook them before adding to the crock pot.
  • Add extra onions for an even richer French onion flavor.
