Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water (110°F)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- Additional melted butter for brushing
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt.
- Add softened butter, eggs, milk, and the yeast mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled.
- Punch down dough and divide into two parts. Roll each into a circle about 1/4 inch thick and cut into 8 wedges.
- Roll each wedge from the wide end to the point to form a crescent.
- Place on a greased baking sheet, point side down. Cover and rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- Brush rolls with melted butter immediately after baking.
Notes
- Add cheese or herbs to the dough for a savory variation.
- For a sweet treat, stuff with jam or chocolate before rolling.
- Whole wheat flour can be substituted for a heartier texture.
- Top with seeds or coarse salt before baking for extra texture.
