Description

These homemade crescent rolls are tender, buttery, and golden brown — perfect as a dinner side or a cozy snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Additional melted butter for brushing

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add softened butter, eggs, milk, and the yeast mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled.
  6. Punch down dough and divide into two parts. Roll each into a circle about 1/4 inch thick and cut into 8 wedges.
  7. Roll each wedge from the wide end to the point to form a crescent.
  8. Place on a greased baking sheet, point side down. Cover and rise for 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Brush rolls with melted butter immediately after baking.

Notes

  • Add cheese or herbs to the dough for a savory variation.
  • For a sweet treat, stuff with jam or chocolate before rolling.
  • Whole wheat flour can be substituted for a heartier texture.
  • Top with seeds or coarse salt before baking for extra texture.
