Description

This Creamy Cheesy Baked Ziti is the ultimate comfort food—rich, gooey, and packed with flavor. Layers of tender pasta, savory marinara sauce, creamy ricotta, and loads of melted cheese come together in this easy weeknight dinner favorite. It’s perfect for feeding a crowd or meal prepping for the week!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ziti pasta

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 1 medium onion, chopped

  • 3 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage (optional)

  • 1 (24 oz) jar marinara sauce

  • 1 cup ricotta cheese

  • 1/2 cup sour cream

  • 1 egg

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided

  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Fresh basil or parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. Cook ziti pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and cook until soft, about 3–4 minutes.

  4. Add garlic and cook for another 1 minute. If using ground meat, add it now and cook until browned. Drain any excess fat.

  5. Stir in marinara sauce and let it simmer for 5 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.

  6. In a large bowl, mix ricotta cheese, sour cream, egg, 1 cup of mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese.

  7. In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, layer half the pasta, half the meat sauce, and half the cheese mixture. Repeat the layers.

  8. Top with remaining 1 cup mozzarella cheese.

  9. Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes, or until bubbly and golden.

  10. Let sit for 5–10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley if desired.

Notes

  • You can substitute cottage cheese for ricotta if you prefer.

  • Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a little heat.

  • This dish freezes well—assemble, cover, and freeze before baking.
